SOCORRO コーチ 財布 Don't call him Jessiray Navarrette. He prefers "Dirt Bag.""I don't want people to know me by my first name," he said. "I want them to know me by what I can do on the field." So why the nickname? Socorro High School baseball coach Chris Forbes explains."The first time I saw him play, he was out there and had slid around and had a lot of dirt all over him and I said, 'He looks like a dirt bag,' and of course, he was just a tiny little guy, so I started calling him 'Dirt Bag,' and it stuck," Forbes said. "A lot of people have said, 'Gosh, that's not very nice of you to call him "Dirt Bag," but I said, 'No, that's his nickname. It's a compliment. "He can play a lot of positions and he has. He's played the outfield, he's played second base, he can pitch, and he's our catcher now. He's just a good athlete and has worked really hard, and you could tell that he was going to be a good baseball player (early on)."Navarrette has been an integral figure in arguably the greatest era of Socorro baseball. (Mark Lambie / El Paso Times)
Navarrette has stepped to the plate コーチ 店舗 a big mistake against a hitter as strong and intelligent as Navarrette."A lot of teams go out, and they see this 5foot3 guy walk up to the plate, and they think that he can't hit," Forbes said. "Then he gets it over their heads and gets their respect. They don't understand that he has a lot of power; he's very strong."Doubts over his size have followed Navarrette all his life."Growing up, a lot of people told me that I'm too small, to go to a smaller team, to go to an age (group) below my team," he said. "They don't see me as a talented player because of my height."It's been a big motivation because I could prove them wrong and shove it in their faces when I'm done."Navarrette's effort even has helped inspire some of his teammates, as well."Everybody underestimates him," said fellow senior George Stoltz, who is 58.
